SolarRating Online

SolarRating Online

SolarRating Online is a free program developed by Green Power Labs Inc. from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia which allows users to guage their homes potential for solar power or heating. The interactive program prompts the user for inputs about their homes geographic location, orientation, roof pitch and shading issues and then rates the homes suitability for solar technology, either thermal (heating water) or photovoltaic (generating electricity).

Simple and fun to use, we recommend giving it a try before calling for a site-evaluation because it will prepare you for the same questions we ask before proceeding to that step of an inquiry. Just click the SolarRating banner (above) to go to their website (which will open in a new window). After completing the on-line assessment you will be promted to save your inquiry as a report which can then be emailed to us as a great first step toward going solar!

Site surveys are expensive to conduct although many solar companies, ourselves included, do not charge for the service. There is always some travel expense plus the time needed to conduct the survey and prepare an estimate, which can run into a few hours. It is reasonable therefore that before going through the expense of the site survey, the customer has considered their homes suitabililty as well as their budget for the rough pricing of a system. If these criteria are met, then the next step is to confirm the suitability with a site survey and go over the details of an installation.

Note: You can see what a typical installation procedure is under our Gallery/Case Studies/Paul and Lily’s Home.
